Highlights of the week

highlights3.jpgThis weeks shining examples were:

  • a PLAGUE of ANGELS had two posts which caught my eye. Radio Head’s live performance (on BBC) of their new single ‘Nude’ and The B-52s  ‘Funplex’ album with two tracks to sample. Read the posts [here]
  • Aurgasm has a nice post on Alex & Sam  who offer very gentle Indie/Folk tunes with distinct jazz roots. Two sample tracks to whet your appetite. Read the post [here]
  • Bag of Songs posted a comparison of Massive Attack’s  ‘Teardrop’ and offset it with the cover by Jose Gonzalez  and, what caught my attention, was the latest version by Newton Faulkner.  All three tracks available to sample. Good one Tom! Read the post [here]
  • Captain Obvious produced yet another excellent mix tape. However, for me the best track was the Greg Laswell cover of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (Cindi Lauper). What a brilliant version! Read the post [here]
  • The Duke of Straw over at The Late Greats has done it again and posted two brilliant reviews (as well as loads of other posts including some of his own “music”). The first post on my list is his review of Melody Gardot with two sample tracks from her album “Worrisome Heart”.  Beautifully crafted, with a mix of pop & jazz. The second review is for The Silver Seas  whose album ‘High Society’ came out last year. I can see why the track ‘Imaginary Girl’ is his favourite of the week. Read the posts [here - Melody Gardot] and [here - The Silver Seas]
  • Lost In Your Inbox posted a catchy little tune from Alamo Race Track called ‘Stanley vs Hannah’. Well worth a listen. Read the post [here].
