“…The band were singled out from the Brighton music scene when they were invited by BBC Southern Counties to perform at the BBC Introducing stage at Glastonbury 2007. Since Glastonbury, Doll and The Kicks have been busy playing live and recording tracks in the studio with producers Oscar the Punk, (who are known for their remixes for Gwen Stefani, Robyn, Moby and Roisin Murphy) and Grammy Award winning mixer and producer Simon Gogerly (Madonna, U2).

2008 has seen their live shows emerge with performances that include, The Great Escape, London Calling, Beachdown Festival and Brighton Live, as well as dates throughout the UK and Europe. I’m a fairly staunch LA fan so, naturally, I think it’s good.

I’ve recently been contacted by a great site called mel.opho.be who provide concert reviews, photographs, etc.

They’re based out of Boston, USA and have a small but dedicated team who provide the core information on the site. However, if you are attending a concert in the near future and you fancy writing a brief review and sharing any pictures you take, you’re invited to contact them and they are quite likely to publish your work.

The site’s been running for about a year now and has some good content.

One to watch: Francis and the Lights

This band has received a smattering of coverage in the blog-o-sphere but don’t seem to have taken off, which I find strange.

I was tipped off about these guys by Drew at the Linesthroughlines blog and they are, in my opinion, just great!

To date they have produced two records, “A Modern Promise” and their latest EP “Striking”. But get this….they are happy for you to download both records for free!!! That’s a total of 10 tracks for free…nada….gratis.

The lead track, ‘Striking’ is a brilliant number….very Prince…very….STRIKING, and ‘Night Watchman’ is catchy as hell.

These fellas deserve a sight more than the 8 and a half thousand plays they’ve had on their Myspace.

The Script: Third Single

Following the success of ‘We Cry’ and ‘The Man Who Can’t Be Moved’, The Script have announced that the 3rd single to be taken from their self-titled debut album will be….‘Breakeven’ and it’s due for release on 10th November.

The video gets an exclusive airing on Radio 1’s website this week and you can view/listen [here].

The band are currently on the road with One Republic at the moment touring round Europe.

My eyes are getting worse. It’s been about three years since my last eye test and I know I’m going to need new glasses.

I find myself taking my glasses off to read more and more when it should be the other way around.

Jon Regen: Tour Dates

I had a very nice email from Jon Regen the other day, thanking me for including his track ‘Finding My Way Back To Me’ in the recent post ‘TRIGGER: Back’.

You might recall I kind of took a shine to Jon’s album “Let It Go” when I first discovered it after a couple of tracks were posted on Ick Music back in April. Here’s what I wrote in the Highlight of The Week post back then…

“Ick Music just got a big fat 10 on my scorecard! Two tracks from an artist called Jon Regen are posted as a review of his 2007 album “Let It Go”. Their description of this album reads: “…Let it Go is one of those records. There is something to it that just feels like home.” Home??? Hell, I’ve got my pipe and slippers out here!!! This is just what the doctor ordered for a nice relaxing evening after a long hard day. Just added this one to my shopping cart at CD Baby!…”
